I recently learned that the Star-Spangled Banner flag (as in, the flag flown over Fort McHenry that inspired the Francis Scott Key poem) has fifteen stripes instead of thirteen, because the tradition at the time was to increase the number of stripes along with the number of stars as more states joined the union.

I assume this tradition ended because of cowardice.

I've prepared several options to revive the tradition:

I think plaid fits nicely, too. As a bonus, a lot of existing tablecloths could be converted to this design with just the addition of the canton.

Going through one of those periods where I remember that my mental health is so much better when I’m not on this site. So this is the main issue I have with image descriptions, which is that a very, very obviously photoshopped picture was not described as a very, very obviously photoshopped picture. And thus anyone who’s relying on grassroots image descriptions isn’t getting nearly enough information.

This is the original:

Which is exactly the same as the first picture, but instead says “Join the change-in Fridays” on the sign and was a promotion for their second season. This is very important context of the photoshopped image, because it’s been altered in order to tell a joke! A joke that was obvious (or… should have been) to people who could see the image! A funny joke!

But because image descriptions are just random people on the internet explaining what they see, and moreover prioritizing what they think is important about an image, there’s still a big disconnect.

star trek also the problem with image descriptions on this site is that most of you are bad at them and do them in a way that doesn't actually increase accessibility
