#adada[Image description: a black and white image showing Kirk and Spock from Star Trek: The Original Series. Both are pointing at a sign that says, “Pon Farr Night Fridays” on big capital letters /end image description]
So this is the main issue I have with image descriptions, which is that a very, very obviously photoshopped picture was not described as a very, very obviously photoshopped picture. And thus anyone who’s relying on grassroots image descriptions isn’t getting nearly enough information.
This is the original:

Which is exactly the same as the first picture, but instead says “Join the change-in Fridays” on the sign and was a promotion for their second season. This is very important context of the photoshopped image, because it’s been altered in order to tell a joke! A joke that was obvious (or… should have been) to people who could see the image! A funny joke!
But because image descriptions are just random people on the internet explaining what they see, and moreover prioritizing what they think is important about an image, there’s still a big disconnect.
